About Hope in Shadows
Hope in Shadows Inc. is a charitable organization creating positive social change for people and communities impacted by poverty and marginalization. Our projects empower, educate, and provide training to low-income people in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and beyond.
Our flagship project is the annual Hope in Shadows photography contest and calendar coordinated by Pivot Legal Society.
The Hope in Shadows charity works with several nonprofit organizations including:
Megaphone is Vancouver's street newspaper. Hope in Shadows works with Megaphone to provide employment opportunities and a voice for homeless and low-income people.
Pivot Legal Society
In addition to coordinating the annual Hope in Shadows calendar, Pivot Legal Society works with Hope in Shadows to provide free legal services and legal education resources for low-income and marginalized people.
Hope in Shadows works with the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) to improve the quality of life for people who use illicit drugs, to develop and implement user defined harm reduction strategies, to develop user based support and education programs, and to develop positive public images of people who use illicit drugs.
Victoria Street Newz
Street Newz is an independent non-profit media project working to end poverty and homelessness. Street Newz provides educational and employment opportunities for socially disadvanataged and/or economically marginalized people. Hope in Shadows works with Street Newz to provide employment through sales of the annual Hope in Shadows calendar.
